Two-time Grammy nominee, Maureen McGovern, recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of sharing her brilliant voice with the world on her chart-topping song, “The Morning After”, which earned an Academy Award, a Gold Record and her first Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist.
In two distinct yet dazzling shows, McGovern calls on the pop/folk muses that helped shape her musical perspective.
Sing, My Sisters, Sing! Celebrates woman singer/songwriters from the 60’s thru the 90’s who changed the texture of the 20th Century Pop Music with their deeply personal and powerful songs. The evening includes reinterpretations of works by iconic singer/songwriters: Annie Lennox, Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Carol King, Melissa Manchester, among others. Maureen also pays tribute to her ‘early singing sisters’ Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Annie Ross; who wrote their own signature songs and paved the way for the next wave of woman singer/songwriters.
A Long and Winding Road takes Maureen’s audience back to the 1960’s and 70’s with early music from our generation’s iconic singer/songwriters, including Carole King, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Webb, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Randy Newman and others. These Baby-Boomer ‘coming-of-age’ greatest hits include: “Fire and Rain”, “Let It Be”, “The Times They Are a-Changin’ ”, “The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress”, “The Circle Game”, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and many more.
